Website Information

Book Companion

This portal is the digital companion to the book "AI Fundamentals" and offers time-critical content, interactive demos, and comprehensive tool lists that complement the printed book.

Technical Implementation

This portal was built 100% with Claude Code – a proof-of-concept for AI-assisted software development through context engineering and vibe-coding. It is technically based on Angular 22 and Optimus UI.

Target Audience

For everyone who wants to understand AI. This portal makes complex artificial intelligence topics accessible and understandable for all.

This website does not collect personal data. All learning progress and settings are stored exclusively in your browser.
I operate a two-tier statistics system: Without consent, I only count anonymous page views per day and country — without device data, session assignment, or user identification. With your consent (cookie banner), I additionally collect time spent, scroll depth, device information, and settings. All statistics data goes exclusively to my own server — not to third parties. This website itself sets no cookies for tracking; the only exception is the affiliate link to the Springer shop, where Awin sets a cookie after the click (see the section “Affiliate link to the Springer shop (Awin)”). What data I collect and what I learn from it is shown transparently on the statistics page.
The extended statistics (only with consent) use a session-specific hash that changes daily — re-identification across days is not possible. Your IP address is used exclusively to determine the country and immediately discarded.
All learning progress and settings can be exported, imported, or deleted at any time.

Legal Data Protection Information (GDPR Art. 13)

The following information is provided to you in accordance with Article 13 GDPR so that you can understand what data is processed, for what purpose, and what rights you have.

Legal Basis for Processing (Art. 6 GDPR)

The anonymous basic statistics (page views per day and country, without device or user reference) are processed on the basis of my legitimate interest in basic reach measurement (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). The extended statistics (time spent, scroll depth, device type, browser) are collected exclusively on the basis of your explicit consent via the cookie banner (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). Contact via email or contact form is processed to handle your inquiry on the basis of your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR) or for the implementation of pre-contractual measures (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). I store your learning progress only if you have agreed to it in the cookie banner or in the settings (Section 25 (1) TDDDG); it stays exclusively in your browser and is not transmitted to my server.

Retention Period (Art. 13 (2) (a) GDPR)

Anonymous basic statistics: Data is stored permanently in aggregated form but contains no personal reference. Extended statistics: Individual events are consolidated into daily aggregates after 90 days at the latest; the daily session hash is not reversible and changes at midnight. Contact emails: Stored until the request has been finally processed, then deleted, unless legal retention periods apply. Local data (localStorage) is stored exclusively in your browser and remains there until you delete it.

Your Rights as a Data Subject (Art. 15-22 GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the following rights against me as the data controller regarding your personal data:

  • Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can request information about whether and what data is being processed about you.
  • Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You can have incorrect data corrected.
  • Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You can request the deletion of your data, provided no legal retention obligations apply.
  • Right to Restriction of Processing (Art. 18 GDPR): You can have the processing restricted.
  • Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You can receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
  • Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR): You can object to the processing at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation.
  • Withdrawal of Consent (Art. 7 (3) GDPR): You can withdraw your consent to the extended statistics and to storing your learning progress at any time. The lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal remains unaffected. You can withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie settings in the footer; you can also switch off progress storage in the settings under "Privacy & Progress". The stored progress is deleted at the same time.

To exercise your rights, please contact:michael.ueberschaer@basiswissen-ki.de

Right to Lodge a Complaint with a Supervisory Authority (Art. 77 GDPR)

Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for this website is:

Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA)
Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany

Feedback Form and Email Contact

If you send me a message via the feedback form or by email, the data provided (message content, optionally an email address for reply) will be used exclusively to process your inquiry. Data will not be passed on to third parties. Data will be deleted after final processing, unless legal retention periods apply. Providing an email address is voluntary; without an address, however, no reply is possible.

Local Data in Your Browser (localStorage)

In addition to the statistics data mentioned above, the portal stores — among other things — the following information exclusively locally in your browser (localStorage). This data does not leave your computer and is never transmitted to my server:

  • cookiePreferences — Your cookie banner settings (consent or rejection): whether you agreed to storing your learning progress and to the extended statistics.
  • user_progress — Your personal learning progress through articles and chapters — including your quiz results, reading checkmarks, unlocked achievements and collected points. All of this is stored bundled in this single entry, and only once you have agreed to storing it. Until then, your progress is kept in memory for the current visit only; if you decline, an existing entry is deleted.
  • theme — Your theme preference (light or dark).
  • preferred-language-v2, easy-language-mode — Your selected display language and whether the Plain Language view is active.
  • preferred-font-v1 — Your selected font — such as the accessible OpenDyslexic typeface.
  • Further purely functional entries, also local only: your favorites and comparison lists in the tools and resources catalog, and which hints and notifications you have already seen. Your progress and best scores in interactive demos count as learning progress and are likewise stored only with your consent.

You can remove this data at any time via your browser settings or the export, import, and delete functions in the portal settings.

Click counting on the book page

The book page offers three ways to buy: a local bookshop, the publisher Springer and Amazon. If you click one of them, I count it — but really only that: all that is stored is the date, which of the three it was, and how often. No session, no identifier, no device data, no IP address, no cookie. So I cannot tell who clicked, only how the clicks are distributed across the three options. I need that number because I deliberately show the local bookshop more prominently than the other two and want to know what effect that has. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in this kind of reach measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); since nothing is stored on or read from your device, no consent under § 25 TDDDG is required either.

Affiliate link to the Springer shop (Awin)

The book page links to the Springer shop via an affiliate link of the Springer Nature Author Affiliate Program. It is handled by the partner network Awin (AWIN AG, Berlin / AWIN Ltd., London). If you click this link, you are redirected to the Springer shop via awin1.com; in doing so Awin sets a cookie with a 30-day lifetime whose sole purpose is to attribute a later purchase in the Springer shop. The controller for this cookie is Awin; details are in Awin's own privacy policy at awin.com. I myself do not receive any personal data, only a statement without personal reference (time, order value and commission per referred purchase). The legal basis is my legitimate interest in being paid for referred purchases (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); if you prefer not to take part, simply use one of the two other ways to buy, or open the Springer shop directly. As long as you do not click the link, nothing is transmitted to Awin.
